Legendary Lake Mills in beautiful Jefferson County Wisconsin is blessed with an abundance of natural beauty. From the mysterious waters of Rock Lake to the scenic Glacial Drumlin Bike Trail to historic Aztalan State Park and Museum to the picturesque downtown shopping and dining district, Lake Mills has something for everyone!

Why are the waters of Rock Lake so mysterious? Many tales have been told of stone structures reported to be found on the bottom of Rock Lake. One such legend says that after suffering a long and terrible drought, natives appealed to their gods for help by building and using sacrificial pyramids. In answer to their prayers, great waters soon covered the pyramids and created the beautiful lake the Native Americans came to call Tyranena meaning, sparkling waters.

Legends aside, Rock Lake is a crystal clear 1,371-acre recreational oasis, beckoning fun-seeking visitors and residents to its cool waters and tree-lined shores. The lake is surrounded by five parks which offer fishing, swimming, canoeing, rowing, kayaking, water-skiing, or a leisurely sunset cruise, all part of your next legendary experience.

Lake Mills lies on the shores of Rock Lake just 25 miles east of Madison and 55 miles west of Milwaukee. Take I-94 exit #259. If you’re traveling from the north or south, Hwy 89 is our Main Street – what could be easier!

It’s hard to believe that it has been 30 years since we opened the doors of the Fargo Mansion Inn.  My partner, Barry Luce and I have been so fortunate to welcome thousands of guests in those thirty years. Many of those guests have stayed so many times that they have become “ Family” ! We started  our bed and breakfast even before there was a state association.  That didn’t last long, along with several very new Innkeepers, we worked hard to formulate what is known today as the Wisconsin Bed and Breakfast Association, WBBA for short. Barry and I proud to say that we are one of the founding and charter members of this great association . I’m still involved quite actively in the Association yet today, by teaching Aspiring Innkeepers  twice a year.  Innkeeping for us has become a lifestyle , and not a job.  Over the years, we have become very involved in our community,  Community is very important  to us and our family.  We have two grown children, Erin and Josh, and three wonderful grandchildren.  Emma is 8, and the twins, Nicholas and Alexander are 4. If you think kids are great, Grandkids are the very best! So, that being said, yes, I’m the Innkeeper and Barry is shall we say, the “Outkeeper” the one behind the scene, running our real estate company, RE/MAX Community Realty, and managing our other commercial and residential properties. He is our cheer leader! Like we always say, “ There is nothing more powerful than a dream, and this has been our dreams for the past thirty years!” Thanks for staying with us the first time, the second time, and hopefully many more times than that! - Innkeeper Tom
